probably trying to figure out a decent rate [for them] by seeing how long it takes people to finish, or seeing how many people complete it.. or whatever they decide to look for.

Every day they post between reasonable hours for your time zone. Something like 9am to 10pm.

This is what I was talking about--Google did the same thing a few years ago--different quals, different pay, some with bonuses, etc. Everyone just figured they were testing the turk waters to see which lure we would take. Ha ! All the HIT s went fast regardless of price, etc. Turkers will eat anything.
