Depends if you tie the cat up near something it can climb for safety. I assumed (perhaps wrongly) that OP was concerned about kitty wandering into neighbor's yard.

Thanks, my old cat got shot because he repeatedly beat up the neighbor's german shepherd. The cat lived and when he recovered he exacted his revenge on the neighbor, himself, when he came over for something. Busted right off his chain and nailed the dude. That mean fucker lived to be 17. Awesome fat tuxedo bastard.

No I'm trying to avoid a wrecked or rebuilt title, that's why buying from a private seller is nerve wracking....
and I live in a house out in the country which is the only reason I let the cat out at all, dead end road with no traffic just the one other house next door....
judging by the loud music, loud voices at midnight the first day idk...it's been empty most of a year so it's been very nice until 6 hours ago

This makes me thankful the neighborhood I live in is all old people.

When I did live in the country we kept some cats outside until dogs (not even pitbulls) attacked them. Inside they went.
