So, how unethical is it to advertise a bonus for an entire survey and then be like "lol, bonus never existed...sucker" at the end?

I never bother with survey comments -- but those fucking get to me.

I think that's unethical. We are paid to do the survey, and that's part of the way we evaluate whether or not to do the HIT. IMO, that's something that an IRB would react to...........

There was another one where the thing was hell on itself then to be told "oops, we lied...you're not getting that bonus"

Exactly, and if anything, it could negatively affect future research attempts that offer real bonuses by making the participant not answer questions truthfully, because they think the bonus is fake.
