Oof, I probably would have quit as well. I only worked in one of the call centers, so thankfully no contact with actual money. But damn are people awful when they can't see you.

I've had a lot of contact over the years with customers--many of them "upset"--as a CS person. I don't know if it's my voice or how I express myself or my verbal attitude, but I could almost *always* pierce that 'anger' barrier by convincing them that I was on their side. One of my few real talents.
