No good news from me: when my dogs had a major infestation I ended up having to clean not only them, but clean, vacuum and flea spray EVERYTHING, including the mattress (they both slept in bed with us). It was almost as bad as when my kids caught lice at school. I used Frontline on the dogs, which works really well. If you have small dogs and well-marked dropper syringe, you can save money by buying the stuff for big dogs and then measuring/applying the appropriate smaller amount to your own.

Of course, we were in FL - so fleas were always lurking somewhere (year round). We switched to everything we could find, at one point - and nothing was addressing the problem.
Then we moved to VT and Winter cured that!

I've been doing the merlamts, but can't say there's a lot of money in them. Kind of bizarre poring through all the email. I even watched some of the documentary about those "smartest guys in the room."

Anybody with Dogs out there got some advice?

My dog has come into contact and all of a sudden has flees. Any tips on getting rid of them? Took her to the groomer a week ago and ever since can't stop scratching and I scanned her and found them.

I get a flea pill from the vet. Comfortis it's like $20. a month kills the fleas in 24 hours.

The fleas this year have been horrible for ours, too. Never dealt with fleas before since we use monthly meds on them. We found out our yard is infested and have been spraying that. After the last round of monthly meds, plus several baths with special shampoo, washing everything in the house, and with spraying the yard we have finally started getting the fleas under control.
Also, as a side note: if I step on the deck I get bit immediately by no-see-ums. Except I do see them and they hurt! Never had an issue with those here either.
