So, Mischief Night is still a thing? Someone toilet papered my neighbors house and smashed his pumpkins

(I just went to three stores,- two were sold out - to buy him 2 new pumpkins .

Jack-o-lanterns aggravate me, unless they're just the painted on ones, that you can eat after. Just seems silly to waste all that food.
I know people will say, "But, who would eat that much pumpkin?"
Probably nobody. But, if there wasn't the demand for large, disposable vegetables, they'd probably grow less and switch to something that people would be more likely to eat than carve.

I know it sounds dumb. I feel the same way about xmas trees. Not because people don't eat them. I just think xmas tree farm land could probably be better, and otherly purposed. Or even let it "go to seed' and let nature have it back.

I do love candy though! Happy Halloween!

a dogpark i once went to in Charlottesville VA had christmas tree drop off, and they would mulch it for trails and dog park. I thought it was nicer than just throwing it in a landfill

We actually don't know our neighbors (we live on a busy street) - but I saw the smashed pumpkins this morning and my daughter and I were so sad.

So, I picked two really interesting ones out and put them on his porch

I appreciate the pumpkin patches of the mid-west b/c at least it is a break from the animal feed growing... and the pig farms. *shudder*

Our housing association does this every year. One of the home-owners has an industrial shredder and they use the mulch on the communal areas. It's neat.
