when i was in 7th grade a kid came in and did a presentation on gunpowder. Right there in the classroom he mixed the ingredients and lit it on fire. The sparkle and smoke was awesome. teacher gave him an A. For the next 2 weeks the school had the constant smell of gunpowder as every boy in the school mixed and lit it in every hidden niche on the grounds.

On a related note, I brought a wasp's nest to school in a shoebox for show and tell in 3rd grade. I thought it was a dead and empty nest. But when I took the lid off the box to show the class, an angry swarm of wasps flew out. They had to evacuate the classroom until the janitorial staff could kill all of the wasps.
