I've stopped asking because I don't trust those savages! I just say, "Wash your hands." And don't accept any negotiation. People who care about food safety don't mind washing their hands a second time. At some jobs that I used to have, I felt like I washed my hands for half the day, in total. I washed my hands significantly more times than a doctor would, throughout the day.(Not obsessively Just Servsafe standards.)

Another thing I've noticed, when making people wash their hands, regardless of whether they have washed them recently, is that you can tell who has, and who hasn't, already washed their hands. Someone who already has, will usually just do a quick 're-wash'. Whereas, someone who knows their hands are dirty, and are already being forced to wash their hands, will spend a lot longer actually making them clean. Just what I've observed in biased, uncontrolled conditions.
