I'm pretty fast and I assume I will just match the fastest time, and if I don't it must be the time that is wrong, not me being

there you go. Have a masters (or whatever level you have to qualify for the HIT) and you get a good paying opinion HIT. Be a relatively noob like me (almost 600 HITs approved, less than a month on the site) and I'm stuck with 10 cent "how would you improve our product?".

yep, me too. I'm also seeing the requestors that understand us. I may panda a 10 min survey (and assume it will take me 20 mins because I'm slow and methodical), but the timer will be 60 minutes or 2 hours or whatever, so I guess they know that we may have several things in our HITS queue so give the timer some time so we can get around to it as we work our queues.
"points" are odd, I'm not sure but it seems like the more verbose you are, the more points, like if you type a paragraph or two about how the HIT reminding you of your 4th grade teacher and go on and on and onOh I don't know, I must have missed that race
AFAIK, there's no "points" given for speed, only for helpful ratings and number of submissions. But I am one of those weird people who likes looking at the comparisons. And since my kids always interrupt my surveys, I'm always excited when I can actually report something accurately
