they have been trickling in for hours now and even without a ton of people on them the lag is still terrible

Depends on the definition of "success". It's been a few years since I've been a part of the dating world, but when I dated I did the online thing and went on quite a few dates, most of them pretty enjoyable. In terms of starting up a long-term relationship it never panned out, but that's on me more than anything. I'd say it's a good way to get to know people through email and messages before meeting in person, and it's nice to be able to find like-minded people based on an extremely detailed set of criteria.

That's awesome. Even if it didn't totally work out it still seemed like a largely positive experience.

For the most part, yeah, definitely. There was some heartbreak involved as well, but I can't attribute that to the online component of the experience. If I were ever going to start dating again, I'd definitely do the online thing again; for someone my age it's just so much less of a hassle than trying to meet people through well-intentioned but clueless friends, or randomly at a bar or whatever.
