Clearly, you don't know my cats.

They don't even tolerate each other.
basing things on my sister friend's dog - sister's friend had a dog for a long time, then got a cat and poor dog. My favorite tale is when the dog would be sleeping, cat would come up and poke dog with paw and dog would immediately wake up and get that look of shock like you have when your guard down and something happens to you that you aren't anticipating.

Yeah, dogs and cats can work really well together, but it's not always easy to find ones that do. That's mostly an issue with cats, though. They can be very picky about who they want to associate with. I think it helps a lot if the cat grows up around the dog. I have two cats that are over the age of 15 though (one is over 20), so they're really not looking for any sort of dog-related excitement in their lives.

Yeah the oldest cat I've ever brought into a dog house hold was only around a year old. And both of those tolerate but do not love the dog. The cat I got at 8weeks is in love with dogs he knows (he's terrified at first).
