Thanks for letting me know.
What
kind of business? (And the word "soon" probably needs to be replaced with a date specific, else "soon" may never arrive.)
We really want to run our own horse boarding facility. We are not even looking for as much of a profit as a breakeven, at least at first. Have your horse boarded is expensive, and a lot of time if you have more than one horse, having them on your own property is actually cheaper. So then having a couple other horses there to split the cost and labor is even cheaper. My best friend and I, and my former roommate also, we have the same horsemanship principals and philosophy on horse care. I currently fight with the people I board with regularly, as we have some different ideas. So we are looking for a little more control, and possibly opening up the way we do things to other people.
Not a huge profit seek for sure, because we will be selective about boarders. However, I know one woman in our area that is similar to us, built hers up, and ended up buying a second property for her personal horses because her facility is so popular and she is making a solid profit on it, with only herself and one other staff member running it. It has taken her about 10 years but she has a very controlled, beautiful property and her business keeps growing.
But we are all into natural hoofcare, paddock paradise (making "tracks" for horses versus standing in a square pasture all day), putting varied terrain in their tracks to help hoof rehab. Another aspect we are thinkin of as well, temporary rehabilitative boarding, for horses with hoof issues. I trim, and putting them on certain surfaces with certain care can speed up recovery greatly. There is a barn in England that is only for hoof rehab.
Timelines are difficult being attached to a navy man, but ideally we would start looking for a property in 2.5 years - when he gets his next set of orders. We are thinking of getting a horse property here if his shore duty orders are for here (which has a high likelyhood with his job)
