I've been planning on doing my taxes myself because I assumed they'd cost way too much to have someone else do them. Yes. I'm a total procrastinator and I've been dreading doing them so I've been putting them off like crazy. Do you guys normally have someone else do them? I usually used to pay about $40 bucks to get my taxes done. How much worse would it be...to go to like H&R Block?

I am self employed, an occasional W-2 if I do something part time, and have used Turbotax for 10+ years. It costs $180 for fed and state. It is easy to use and prompts you through everything. It evens pulls up your info from the previous year.

edit: they have different prices depending on your tax situation

I've used the H&R Block online Free File for years for Federal and have never had any issues. Super easy and they save your information from previous years. We don't have to pay state income taxes in Texas so it is 100% free for me. When I lived in states that had taxes I would just take the info from there and file for free on the state's website. If you do it on H&R Block it is $29.95 per state/Federal is $0 unless you want them to do it. I personally would never pay to have taxes done unless I had a very strange situation. I've been fully-employed and self-employed.

I've always done them with my husband ourselves, it does take a bit of time and effort, but we don't want to pay money to do that unless we had very complicated taxes. Just follow the directions and use the resources that's given on the IRS website is what we've done most of the time.
