Surviving the Blue Norther by J. B. Cearley Weather Wisdom

We went to bed early because of the cold. The heat soon died out in the stove, and the blizzard crept into the house as the temperature continued to drop. Sometime during the night, Mother got up and spread all the extra bedcovers she could find over us. We felt warmer.
Early the next morning, Dad got up and started the fire in the stove in the kitchen. After 30 minutes, we all had to get up. The livestock needed attention.
I glanced outside to see that the wind was still blowing hard, driving the fluffy snow across the flat terrain. Dad turned the radio on and we soon learned that it was 15 degrees below zero. Never had I been in such cold!
Mother made hot biscuits for breakfast. The scrambled eggs and those hot buttered biscuits with homemade jam made us feel a little warmer.
Then it was time to do the milking. We hurried through feeding and milking the six cows and carried the milk to the house and ran it through the cream separator.
Then we got some bad news. "Boys, " Dad said softly, "We have a chore to do. The stock must have water, and there isn't any running from the storage tank to the stock trough. Everything is frozen." to be continued ...
