I love cross stitch! I have to do small things though definitely, I'm about 80 stitches away from being done with the biggest thing I've ever attempted.

My grandma was awesome at it. She mostly knits now, but has done some amazing cross stitch pieces and has made her own patterns too. She created and stitched a design of my parents house (that they built themselves) and my parents hung it above their mantel. It's amazing.

Definitely crochet, if she's using more then one occasionally there is a specific stitch (broomstick lace) where you could use another.

look up a video for single crochet for her and that's the beginning of squares haha

She wants to make a purse so she has been making strings and then taping them together. I tell her it's AMAZING, gonna have to look up a video for her it sounds like
