It's amazing how intelligent octopuses are, especially when you realize that their lifespan is only about 4 years. If they had the capability of teaching their young, I feel like they'd become the "humans of the ocean" so to speak. As it is now, the females starve themselves protecting their young, even when given food. They end up killing themselves for their babies, because that's just how evolution works.I once paid the extra fee to go behind the scenes and hang out with a giant pacific octopus at the Oregon Coast Aquarium. You get to pet him, feed him, and keep the shells of the clams that he ate. He also would watch where you are and use his siphon to get you wet just to mess with you. Must have thought it was funny.
