This is horrifying. But I spent three days in a truck stop in Ocala and another two on the panhandle and I can believe it.

I was in a truck stop on the panhandle one night when the power went off. The locals weren't too bothered by it. Then I hear someone remark: "Oh good, I see headlights, looks like power didn't get knocked out of the cars too."

Then three people agreed that this was fortunate.

Uhmm, I'm not defending anyone, by any means, but I have some rather country type relatives who really think there will be some sort of apocalyptic type of event some day. They prepare for things like power loss due to an EMP. I'm not saying that family at the truck stop was that sort of group, but if they were, maybe they were just relieved that it was a normal ole power loss and not the beginning of something bigger. In that context, the remark would be more uhm, sensible. OK, I'll shut up now.
