Whichever hospital you were at should have had a "social services" person- they should have spoke to you before you left. You need to get a hold of them, explain that you are without insurance. Every state offers temporary health insurance to low/no income people. (It lasts usually 90 days...) Also, ask the pharmacy you are getting your shit filled about discount programs. There are little cards in the front about them, they're not much, but they help. (Even the tiny little pharmacy in my <1800 people town has access to them...) If they're totally ass-backwards from the rest of the world and don't, google for one.
If the social services person at the hospital is a dead end for whatever reason, get your ass down to the local human services office and tell them you had a goddamn life-threatening condition, explain what, and apply for temporary insurance. No amount of pride is worth dropping dead over a goddamn bite.

to the guy needing help tho. If you go this route and you're in a major city like I am tho. Be prepared for the longest waits of your life. but it's worth it for the cost reduction. but be prepared for people to think you're possibly scamming the system, not really sick. people get racist as fuck at this level. people give me death stares from hell like i'm stealing medicine from them personally... then talk shit. it sucks and its mean. but please dont let it discourage you.

@Loxxed you mentioned you are in TX atm right? AFAIK Texas does not offer any Medicaid/"temporary" insurance whatsoever unless you are disabled, pregnant, a child, or have a cancer diagnosis, but depending on what part of the state you're in you might have some options. Def need to see if the antibiotic is on any drugstore chain's/big box store's $4-5/10 list. If not, perhaps the hospital can re-prescribe a cheaper one. I have some experience with not having insurance in TX so feel free to PM with your location if you want.
