Yes, Baxter is very calm and sweet. But he is 6. Until he was about 3 he was quite a handful.

If you get one from good stock and train it well, but German Shepherds as they are now have a lot of health issues, mainly having to do with their hips.

Baxter has perfect hips. But has lymphoma. So it's a toss up - YMMV. Is he the best dog ever? Yes. Will I ever go without a German Shepherd again? No.

Yes, it's one of those breeds like Dalmatians or Boxers, where if you want a dog you have to make absolutely sure they come from stellar stock from a reputable breeder or you're rolling the dice on serious health problems down the road.

cats and dogs get cancer a lot of times from smokers, cats are 2 times more likely to get cancer from second hand smoke
