Well...she'll realize, probably in 20 years, and the hard way, that she got everything backwards. That was how I did it.

This is just a nicer way of saying, "It's not you, it's me." She's afraid of letting you down, which is why she's making excuses but still acting like she wants to spend time with you. She's hoping that you'll just lose interest and let it go on your own, so she can get out of this with a clear conscience.
