Going somewhat fast, around 20?? minutes (sorry, I didn't check my timer)... it's bubble hell though, and plenty of ACs.

Not dumb at all. It confused me at first, too. But yeah, just hover over the envelope icon and you'll see "start a new conversation". Once you click it, like @Kadauchi said, just start typing their name in the box.
