I am not advocating for anyone to cheat on their taxes but if you (or your tax preparer) know what they are doing you can find a lot of loopholes and ways of claiming your income. It depends on your tax bracket, main job, if you have your own business, or if you simply putz on turk for shits and giggles and don't use it to earn a serious income.

Should you be paranoid about getting audited? No.

Most of the work that we do is through so many different requesters that pay us anonymously using Amazon as a middleman that the records kept beyond Amazon and with the universities are fuzzy at best.

Again, I am NOT advocating cheating on taxes just stating that there are ways to minimize what you owe and that your risk of being audited on Mturk income is next to zero.
