Not sure if this will work for you, but whenever I really need to focus on something I like to change my location. If I have a big deadline coming up I'll got to the library or even just a different room in my house. Someplace quiet without too many distractions, but different from where I usually work. I think being in a different location wakes my brain up just enough that I don't get complacent and let my mind wander. (Disclaimer - just my personal experience, absolutely no hard evidence to back up if this is a good strategy!)Do you guys have any tips on how to stay focused while studying? I am taking a cert test on Friday and I just can't focus or retain information. I do know a lot on the subject (networking) but I can read a chapter of a book, and not retain any of it later. I've tried cramming practice tests and do well on them, I just want to get some last minute info.
That's a great idea. I'm always half asleep where I'm currently at (my fault, of course) so I usually can't focus. I suppose being alert of people I don't know all around me will help. Not sure if this will work for you, but whenever I really need to focus on something I like to change my location. Good luck!
What I have my students do is alwyas have a pen in hand while studying. Write whatever comes to mind as you read the text. Make free associations to the content ("This reminds me of blah."). Don't beat yourself up if you lose focus, but make a note of it. Acknowledge it.Do you guys have any tips on how to stay focused while studying?
