Hey guys, I am a freshly minted Mturker (Just started about 3 weeks ago) and have been creeping this forum for awhile to steal all your hits for all the excellent information and pandas you post.

I have a question to throw out there though, not sure if you can help. I'm unsure of how much information to post about the HIT but a few days ago I finished a HIT that had a decent reward, but it was very complicated and took me awhile to finish, and I ran out of time on it. (The time was really freakin' short)

I emailed the requester asking if I should still submit the work I did, because I think it was pretty substantial work I did. I know that submitting the survey and submitting the HIT are different things too. From the response I got it seems like multiple students use this professor's account to post HITs and who the hell knows which one was in charge of the task I did. It's been 4+days now and I'm wondering how long I should give it before I figure the reward is forfeit.

Has anyone had an experience like that in the past?

I'm afraid I don't have a good answer for this (maybe someone else will), but welcome!

I don't believe I've been in a situation like that before, but if you can't get a hold of the person that put up the HIT I'm not sure that there's really much you can do. I would, however, hold off on submitting them any work that you've done until they post a makeup HIT for you, or something. If you submit your work without them agreeing to anything, you may never see a dime.

Personally, if I were in that situation, I would probably move on within a few days, depending on the amount of work and time that I put in. I would think about how much time I'm spending on trying to get a hold of these people and wonder if the reward for the HIT would even be enough to compensate me for all of that lost time. I don't know the HIT you worked on, though, or what it paid, so maybe it would be worth it for you. Only you can decide.

It sometimes takes a while for requesters to respond. I'd wait at least a week for a response, especially if it's from a university. If the hit expired but you submitted the task externally and are trying to get paid, you sometimes have to walk them through the process since they won't have a way to pay you through mturk unless they set up a compensation hit.
