When I was at my Mother's house in TX, a palmetto bug strolled across the living room floor. I grabbed the first thing handy which happened to be my flip flop. I beat the shit out of that thing, sat down to gather my wits before I disposed of it properly. All of a sudden it took flight. I'm still experiencing trauma.
