LOL It traumatized my brother, as well. Like, he wouldn't come in the room when it was on. I had the book that you quoted, and was aware of the connection to NIMH. In the movie, there is a delivery truck. If I'm not mistaken, that had a box with National Institute of Mental Health, written on it. The only part that bothered me, or scared I guess, was the Great Owl bit.

And damn I guess I was oblivious as a kid. It's been so long since I watched the movie that I don't remember details like that. Though the content does make me wonder why they labeled it as a kid's movie >_> Though I suppose I was just thin skinned.

NiMH was my intro to 'what is mental illness'. Yes I had a strange childhood.

Seems like a lot of "kid movies" had references to mental illness. And as a kid, no one explained crap to me so that made it ten times worse lol. For a long time, I thought movies were real and the things in them could be out to get me
