Rejected hit

I'm fairly new to MTurk and have completed about 320 hits so far. I had a rejection recently and I can't for the life of me figure out why. I remember the hit very well and followed directions and was shocked to see it was rejected. Now today I had another hit rejected and the comments were thanks you for participating in our short version survey we have awarded you a bonus. Both hits were by different requesters. So I am confused as to what I am doing wrong. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that. The rejection that you got today sounds like you may have been screened out of the full version of the survey and the requester is attempting to compensate you for your time without paying you for the entire thing. Honestly, that's a pretty horrible way to go about it, but there are a lot of requesters out there that don't realize what having those rejections on our accounts can do to us. There are also some unscrupulous requesters around that won't hesitate to reject for seemingly no reason at all.

Are you using anything like TurkerView or Turkopticon? They were setup so that workers could review requesters to help others avoid situations like this. I would recommend them both if you're not using them.

The MIT short survey thing was unfair, IMO. I had caught that and got the short version. I tried emailing while I had the hit in queue, but when they didn't respond, I let it expire because I got a weird vibe from the HIT.

Yes it was the MIT one that was rejected today. I just need to be more careful.

The MIT hit was not your fault at all. I would follow @aveline's advice and download Turkopticon and TurkerView. It will tell you if requester's have a history of rejecting hits. It helps a bit to see what hits to potentially avoid.

Just an update, I sent an email to the requester MIT asking why the hit was rejected. I explained I just wanted to know as a guide to what not to do in the future. I received an email today letting me know they erroneously rejected the hit due to confusion on their part regarding mTurk and that they woudl be reversing the rejection. So I'm glad I took a chance and sent to email asking for an explanation.

Under your dashboard you can see the hits posted daily if you expand a paricular day you can see all the hits and to the far right is an option to contact the requester which allows you to send them an email. Sorry to hear about your rejection.
