I wonder if the old style HITs with no iframe will be fixed to work on the new worker site or if requesters that use those will be forced to update.

Is it effective now to request quals or how does that seem to be going so far?

It was and is pretty much a waste of time to request qualifications just blindly. Qualifications are usually granted by requesters through some system they've set up, whether that's doing HITs for them previously, doing well on a qualification batch, passing a specific test, etc.
