They'll filter reviews at their whim if you don't pay up, too. Mostly the good ones tend to "disappear". They also cold call and harass you, it's shady as fuck.

I have managed restaurants and yes, they suck. They have been busted several times for hiding reviews or offering to make negative ones disappear for a price. They tried to do that with a restaurant I worked at several years ago. The owner had some uh, lively words with them. I don't trust them at all.

I dont really trust peoples judgements when they feel they have been slighted. I know many people who will say terrible things about a place because of an honest mistake. Lots of people jump to making emotional decisions instead of using logic. Now, if there are like 20 reviews all saying the same negative thing about a place then yeah Im going to stay far away from that place lol

Yep, they do the same thing with cruises. Dinner service a little slow? slam them. Someone took your favorite chair at the pool? has to be the cruise lines fault. Everything has to be perfect for their little vacation or it was the worst experience of their life. I feel sorry for them really, I go to have fun, and by god I'm going to have fun...

For chains or franchises this might work, but for smaller businesses, you're actually playing right into what they want you to do so they can put the screws to the business more. Quite mafia-esque, paying for 'protection' basically.

I just figure the positive are paid for so I read the negative. If they say something like "My waiter smelled funny but the food was great." then I'm like "Okay so the food is good just hold your breath around the waiters."

EDIT: Basically if the reviews are negative for stupid reasons then I say "Okay let's go there." But if there are valid negative reasons then I don't. I don't see how that helps/hinders either side.
