depends what else you've earned for the year.
i dont pay any taxes, just get money back because i have kids.

well, usually do my taxes in february or march. don't think the IRS will let you file much earlier. i have a W-2 job but i file my mturk (and prolific, ebates, other online income) income on a schedule C. it's not hard. they take a lot. this thread has some advice: http://www.mturkcrowd.com/threads/taxes-for-turkers-reporting-self-employment-income.127/

Or you can pay quarterly taxes -- that's what I do -- about 25% of what I make on mturk.

I had to pay quite a bit last year, and this year I'll have to pay more. It depends on total income, filing single or jointly, dependants, and a bunch of other factors.

a good rule of thumb for self employed is to withhold 25% or more for taxes.

it's not difficult, but the thing is that they don't take a certain percentage or whatever per person.
they look at your total income, and your total deductions (filing status, for example), and that's how they determine how much taxes you owe or get refunded.

the difference is that most w2 jobs have you pay taxes each week. I pay about 34% in fed/state/local taxes. it was slightly more when I lived within the Philadelphia borders. those payments are IDEALLY supposed to balance out with your deductions and stuff, and you should even out. doing your taxes is all about evening out your dues.

mturk payments, and other similar fund sources, may not have tax payments with them, and you end up getting caught up in that.

I had to pay out more than that last year. It was not a fun check to write. They hit us twice for social security/medicare.

Taxes really are the worst part of Turk in my opinion. I'm on a payment plan to pay back like 3k in taxes from the last 2 years. The bright side of that is I have come find that the IRS isn't so scary if you work with them.

exactly. the FDA actually says any product that has been filtered to the point it no longer contains pollen is no longer eligible to be classified as honey... which is why much of the mass market honey is primarily made up of hfcs which will have none of the other beneficial qualities of honey.
