Discord is a program/site/phone app that is much like irc, but pretty and does more things i think. I have 2 bots running in the server (1 being on 24/7), and no one needs to be on the server for it to stay functional.

it's a good place for off topic chat or if you want to gather people to play a game or something like that
Also does music and other things when i load up my local bot (though that only happens when my pc is on)
