no electronics & no friend's houses or anything for 2 weeks, minimum. no playing video games without supervision for however long I deem necessary (depending on their behavior for the 2 weeks). serious, adult-ish discussion of money/finances. and a serious chewing out. lol

Not a parent but if they stole it to buy video games, video games should def be out no and ifs or buts. Not even with supervision.

Thankfully 9 is a good time to learn lessons like this and make 'em stick... while they are still too young for jail I stole some change from a kid in first grade and you better believe I remembered the pile of shit I got in for the rest of my life.

I would have gotten a beating growing up for sure, however, we never spanked our kids ever. Me looking scary was usually enough.

I have a ten year old. I would not let him have the video games he bought ever. Return them if possible delete them completely if downloaded.

No video games, tablet or tv for a month with free time during that time would be spent doing chores to work off debt or reading.

Birthday or report card money subject to being forfeit if I felt the debt was not paid or any misbehavior during the "probationary' period.

change is nothing. I think everyone has grbbed change off a table as a kid. my nephew stole 3 of my mom's credit cards and one of the cards was an official card from her church

he's been pretty bad, but never THIS bad. if I EVER did this as a kid, my dad would beat my ass, THEN call the cops, then once I get back from Juvinile hall I'd be grounded for a year.

One of my grand daughters is a thief, she's stole money several times, from me, from her parents, from school, etc. No punishment works on her, she's gonna be trouble her whole life. Can't be trusted

I would prob spank, but that's frowned upon these days....

Maybe make him apologize to the church and everyone while still grounding him and making him pay the money back.
I HATED apologizing. Anyway he can volunteer at the church too? Sad to use volunteering at a church for punishment, but might do him good.
