I wish I had yall as parents when I was a kid. lol these are some light ass punishments for something you could go to jail for

It's a new age. We cannot parent how our parents parented us.
My son actually did this to his g-ma's credit card. He was a little older lik 12 or so. We took away his DS for a year (which at the time was the ultimate horror). He had to earn it back. I told him once you destroy trust, it is very hard to earn it back, but he did put in the effort. I laid on the guilt heavy (the biggest weapon). With this particular child (the first), it worked. (I don't think guilt would work with my younger son.) He hated the idea of disappointing us and really wore the badge of being the big brother/responsible one. So you gotta gauge the child. The worse thing to do is make them feel like this far outside the "normal" stuff kids do. You can't make them feel like they are rotten no good criminals or they will internalize that and the resistance to doing bad stuff will go down. That was my son's only infraction (besides one time I caught him looking at something pornographic at 14yo).

Maybe make him apologize to the church and everyone while still grounding him and making him pay the money back.
I HATED apologizing. Anyway he can volunteer at the church too? Sad to use volunteering at a church for punishment, but might do him good.
