Prolific newb help please

So I should be all ready to go with Prolific now but I am a little confused about are they HITs or is it a way to make money on the side or both? Any and all advice on Prolific is welcome, please. TIA

It's just academic surveys. They pay money like HITs do, but it's just a different website with academic surveys only - no batch tasks or other types of work.

Thank you! I'm not always finding the threads that I'm looking for obviously.
It's interesting to see what you've said and what others have said over there. I suppose it doesn't hurt to keep on hand.
