On a side note... The FBI is paying Best Buy Geek Squad to spy on peoples computers that they bring in to get fixed, and they are told to go thru the whole drive and look for anything that is incriminating. Now this is really illegal as you have to have a search warrant to be able to do this.
Whoa, that is totally not ok at all.

I'm thinking about getting a laptop for tertiary turking purposes. Anyone want to tell me exactly what I should get so I can stop panicking every time I try to pick one out?
Following. My laptop is my mom's old one. It's 10 years old and has to stay plugged in. lol.
It means a lot to me because it's the one major thing she gave me when she passed, but I need something reliable to turk with.

Ever since I started to make good money on turk, I have been more aware about saving and ect. Finally.

I've been wanting to cut our grocery bill some, so I have been looking in the cabinets and what we have and building meals around that and only buying what we need for that week. Unless something is on sale and I can't pass up. (right now shredded cheese is so I grab 2 or 3 instead of 1).
We usually spend about $70-$100 a week for our family of three. I'm excited to see if I can get it lower today. This also includes pet food, wipes, and ect.

I'll update you guys tonight on how I do. Hopefully I don't jinx myself by posting this and spend like $150.
Is there a thread about frugal living on here?
Not sure if there's a thread started yet in our Social Forum, but feel free to start one. We also have the Never Ending Chat thread where almost anything goes: talking about your day, children, pets, everything, nothing :)

It depends entirely on your budget. Ignoring all the other specs, find something that has an ssd drive.

A6_Foul_Out @A6_Foul_Out helped me a lot when I was looking for a desktop, might try asking him? I'm horrible at finding good computers on my own

My budget is... medium? I don't want bottom of the barrel, but I can't do something super fancy.

Are there any other specs I should prioritize along with the ssd?

sounds like a great plan, when you figure it out, please share any tips you have as we turkers could use them when it comes to groceries and trying to save a buck :)

Geek Squad has been a shit show since they started. After looking up reviews years back, I vowed to never go there. And I can fix my own computer anyway but wanted to see how good they were. Pushing stuff on people they don't need was the biggest thing I remember reading.

Also, I wouldn't get anything that is dual core anymore but that's me. 4gb ram, ssd, quad core at any speed should work pretty well for turking. Dual core is really chugging on the last laptop I had. I wouldn't go back.

Your average i5 laptop is kind of run of the mill, but it'll do mturk stuff nicely. Check for similar specs such as this:

http://www.microcenter.com/product/487762/Inspiron_15_5570_156_Laptop_Computer_-_Silver

I usually encourage people to actually play around with one in person because of the screen - both for quality and the type of coating used (matte or glossy.) 'cuz your'e going to be spending hundreds of hours staring at the thing and it'll suck if it doesn't suit you.

So dumb question for you (or anyone) - does brand matter much when picking out a laptop? Or does it really come down to the individual components?
