I've never used testable minds. The 30 dollar minimum to withdraw makes me nervous about it. How fast do people tend to make money on it? Can 30 be reached in a reasonable enough time that it doesn't feel like I'm wasting my time for nothing?

They are fairly new, so there's a chance that the $30 minimum won't be a permanent requirement. It may become something like a gateway, where you need to reach it at least once before you can withdraw. I think it's in place because of the current system using PayPal, so they are probably trying to limit the fees they have to pay.

As far as how long it takes, it's really way to soon to say. I've $11.50 of surveys in the last three weeks, but that's also because this is their first month in operation. Maybe it will always be the slow, like Prolific, or maybe it will speed up as more people sign on for surveys, it's really too soon to tell. I was just willing to take a shot on it because sometimes being first in line, even now, makes it worth your time down the road. Think of all those people who got Masters because they were around when the first masters like quals were given out.

I don't think we ever heard anything official, but I don't fill out the text boxes unless I really have something to say, which is rare. In the past I believe they have said that it is optional but I don't have a source or anything. Never had a problem myself, YMMV.
