I wonder how many of the planet's natural resources have been wasted on dumb stuff like cryptocurrency mining. Actually, I probably don't want to know. I feel like it would make me very sad.

It all really depends. I was mining Ravencoin for the past few months; can mine at 60%TPD and make the same as overclocked; saved a ton on my power... but the difficulty is going up... If your rigs are pulling in that much it might still be worth it.. check out ANN on bitcointalk for new listings, but a lot of them can be scams / not worth much.I went to NiceHash when it was super profitable and should have changed to something else by now. Probably less that the energy costs of the convoluted banking system we are currently using. Or the electricity used by Wall St to keep all of the fund managers betting on stocks, hedging their bets, and betting against themselves, while juggling an infinite amount of derivatives and shorts. We just have come to accept the status quo, regardless of whether or not it's a bloated resource 'black hole'.
