"Victoria"(UK tv, 2016)

Wow! I had gotten to a point where I was out of "new" shows to watch and was taking suggestions. "Victoria" had come up a few times and I dismissed it outright. My prejudice about a show with a female lead was only slight, as I had watched mysteries helmed by women but couldn't bring myself to watch outside of my comfort zone. Due to this reason, I had not even watched a trailer until Series 2 had run it's course. When I started the first episode, I did so in the background, expecting that this show wouldn't hold my attention, and I would just white-knuckle my way through the first one and be able to say that I tried. After, 20 minutes, I found myself engrossed with the show. The willful, yet clever, main character, Victoria, drew me in with her sharp tongue, enough for me to focus on the visuals. The historic backgrounds and bespoke costumes blend seamlessly with the well written plot, to provide a completely stimulating experience. Once I had watched the first 2 episodes, I found myself invested in the characters and unable to not watch all the way to the 'Christmas Special'. I can't think of anything I'd change about this show. If I do, I'll change my review.
