Yeah... I've been struggling a bit with it. So many names... so many "wait wut?" moments and then wracking my brain to try to figure out if I forgot something from earlier.

This is how I felt when trying to get through The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe. Heard people raving about how it's the peak of the fantasy genre, and I gave up about 25% of the way through

I'm pretty sure this will get good. But for right now it reads exactly like an archaeologist wrote it... his world building is intricate and nuanced and deep... in comparison his character building feels a little less dimensional. But right now it's such a dense read with lots to remember... my brain damage is struggling a bit with the density of the information being presented because I have no idea what is important to remember and what isn't.

I read it when I was about 14. I think it took me two attempts. Second time round, I really enjoyed it. I hate not finishing books.

Yeah, usually I'll plow through anything because I figure it'll either get better later or at least I'll be able to conclusively say that I don't enjoy it, plus I hate not knowing the end of a story. But much like
@Blue's description, there's so much world building and detail and terms the author made up on one side, and the character just sort of meandering through this world not really doing anything interesting on the other. I'll go back to it eventually but for the moment I switched over to reading more of the Night Angel books by Brent Weeks that I think

I thought the same when I read them. The world was very rich, but the characters could be a little flat. And there would be connections formed between certain characters that seemed like they kinda came out of nowhere, which confused me and made me wonder a bit why I should care. But it was his first book, so I think that kinda shows. It did improve a lot by the end of the book for me, and I noticed a pretty big improvement in his writing by the second book. As a whole, I really enjoyed it.

Yea the whole... entire.. tattersail parts were useless. Some of it was neat, but he abandoned her and used sinn and the boy for that role (I think)
