It's because most fans of baseball just follow their teams, football is really the only sport that people will watch a game between 2 teams that aren't one they actively cheer for.

My dad is OBSESSED with tennis! Never played a day in his life, but he will sit and watch any tournament on tv. He still brings up Andre Agassi every now and then.
