It's for validation. It's a pain in the ass for us survey takers, but does make the results they receive "valid" if the answers are consistent.

(If you already knew this, so sorry for being Captain Obvious.)

I mean, a lot of it is overboard though. I shouldn't have to solve anagrams, then type out a paragraph, and whatever else. It's a huge waste of time for us. A page of anagrams should be enough. Or a page of typing. The pages of the same crap with slight variations are the worst especially when they're long to begin with.
