Would stabbing a piece of chicken a bunch with a fork be the same as betting it with one of those weird little mallets with the bumps on the side?

I usually just put it in a ziploc or put plastic wrap under/over it and smash it with my fist until it thins out

If you are trying to flatten it, put it in a ziploc or wrap it with plastic and beat it with something heavy, or you can use a rolling pin.
