Yeah, she moved on to the liquid after I took the bar from her hand and ate the whole thing, in protest. I swore before every bit. Then we moved to the liquid and I swished it around and blew bubbles. She gave up. It was funny because I had been swearing in her presence for years before what I refer to as, Bubbles for Breakfast Day.

My mom never washed my mouth out with soap. She was usually busy putting another quarter in the swear jar. My dad, who was a sailor for years, would say that she was the only person he ever met who could swear for 30 minutes straight without ever repeating herself. Of course, by then everyone was falling on the ground laughing their heads off....Mother was an inventive woman. She had a firm grasp of the vagueries of the language---several of them.
