Making them lose interest sounds perfect. My problem is when I'm like "HAHA I JUDGED BOOOOOOBIES TODAY FOR A BIT" and people are like "Don't you have an English degree??"

Yeaaah...never finished a lit degree myself, going back in a month to get a professional writing degree instead (which, allegedly you can get paid to do that - probably the subjects are pretty boring but whatever, can't be worse than the retail I've worked) so am suuper familiar with the need to distract people when they start asking about what you do. Sympathies.

I have an MFA in Creative Writing... HAHAHAHAHA, wasn't that smart? Saying "English" is easier.

I did teach at a community college and a university for a while, which is why I got the MFA anyhow, and uhh... I hated it. I wanted to get a flat tire every day on my way to campus. If I could hang out and talk about writing and books with these kids/and adults all day, I'd totally have kept at it, but it required a lot more not-fun writing and grading than I was willing to put myself through.

I turk so I can stay home and finish the next Great American Novel, at which point I'm going to move up to Maine and rub elbows with Stephen King at the grocery store.

Good on you for going back, though. I had plans to get my PhD, but thankfully changed my mind.
