Just as information about hurricanes, we literally followed Matthew up the coast on 1-95 from FL (I was driving around trees that snapped and were across the highway)
and the warning system was great in S. Carolina (big signs that told us that 1-95 was open - and flashing). But just after we crossed the border into N. Carolina, the signs stopped. Then, around midnight, there was a sign saying to get off - so we did and slept, like dozens of other cars - at a McDonalds.
We got up the next am and went back on 1-95 - no signs warning of anything
And then all of the sudden, about 1 hour later, we were directed off.
1-95 was flooded. I assumed we'd wait a few hours and it would clear. It didn't, and our return route started to flood. We finally drove through water to get back to S. Carolina (we got the last hotel room in Florence - ironically - SC).
But it still irritates me that all of those signs stopped in N. Carolina. 1-95, as it turned out, was flooded and closed for days.
So.........that's our story.
