Student loan service companies are the devils minions. I was so happy to sell mine to the government b/c (SURPRISINGLY) the gov is more helpful and forgiving about it... but prob b/c they know I'm just going to be paying them till I die.

Heh. I'm just relieved I have the one paid off...I don't know if the rest of Vermont is stuck in 1992, but this company sure is. Not really sure why they even had a website, they expected you to call them for *everything*, when they were only open during the exact hours I worked at the time...and they insisted on snail mailing paper forms for years after my other servicer had electronic PDFS for me to digitally sign.

Selling loans to the government is the way to go, huh? I'll definitely have some refinancing to do once I'm done. *takes notes*

I had VSAC (VT based student loan goblins) for a while b/c I went to school in VT, but uhh yeah selling to the gov got them all in one place, so it's only one payment, and they let me do income based repayment now so I don't have some goblin expecting me to give them like $800/month.

Income-based is the way to go, definitely look into that as soon as possible. And yes, poor solidarity!

That definitely sounds like something a goblin would expect. Glad to hear that the government is actually more sensible (which is a really weird thing to think for some reason)
