Whatever's the cheapest.... which, tbh, has been mostly the actual hotel websites recently.. (i've also had luck with hotwire)

I usually Google Maps the location, search for "hotel" and check them out that way, then book direct from the hotel. But, I don't travel often.

I think in really small towns there aren't a lot of deals anyway and the rooms are usually cheap directly from the hotel.

Do you know if there's hotels in the area? For smaller areas I've been to, sometimes airbnb.com has great stuff if that's your thing. Also the one @YAHU mentioned.
