I managed a produce department for WinCo Foods for like 6 years. I dealt a lot with produce distributors out there, since our warehouse was there in Modesto.
Pretty much half of America's produce and nuts come from where I live.

So glad I live here. It's super cheap to buy here!

so that's how you eat during the mturk is slow months
That's actually more true than you know! There is no need to starve around here.

(and lets talk about how fun this area in the fall months after pumpkins are done growing and farmers don't care if you pick the scraps and go four wheeling and play mail box baseball...haven't done that in decades, but high school was tons of fun in the fall!)

when I worked in highway design and construction I would sometime walk with the paving machines you see on the highways. The paving crew would go into the fields and pick corn and stick them in a corner of the asphalt hopper to cook them. That stuff is like 300 degrees. I never could get past the odor to eat them, but those guys were in it all day long everyday and every part of them smelled like asphalt, even their shit on corn days.
I literally have like four corn cobs sitting on top of my microwave right now waiting for me to "pop" them. How did the corn they cook not pop? lol.

the asphalt is only about 300 degrees and they are still wrapped in the leaves. They just get cooked like steamed corn
