I'm generally a fact checker. I just assumed this was something he'd say. If he didn't, fair enough, but I can almost promise you he believed it on some level. Reagan/Bush really made the religious pandering an art form.

To be fair, GHWB was a moderate when he ran against Reagan. It was once he became VP he shifted his views to accommodate the religious right. It is one reason I did not like him, because he was very quick to change his stances on certain positions for political gain.
