But when you make like 35k or so in self employed, don't you have to pay like 40%
Thats a huge chunk.
I don't know. I've never made that much self-employed. My stuff has always been a side gig, whatever I did and usually less than $10k a year. It's literally just supplemental income since I've been a SAHM for 13 years. I sock it away for emergencies, fun money, whatever.

I miss working so much. I felt appreciated and I knew that I was helping people :\
In order for me, Job 1 was hit by bad economic times, so I was laid off not due to performance, but because I wasn't a senior employee, so was on the list to be chopped. Job 2 made me make a supply run during a snowstorm, got into a car accident in a parking lot that wasn't my fault (First accident ever), and I was fired less than an hour after getting back to the workplace without even talking to me or checking to see if I was alright. The third boss completely disregarded his team's advice on branding a product and trying to push against someone for the legal rights to use the brand name, tried to blackmail this person, and the whole thing went down in flames.

So yea, that's why I'm here now. I'd like to make a living on my own terms, and not shy about working for it, there just has to be.. y'know, work to do. *shuffles back to A9s for pennies*

I know when I had a W2 job I qualified for a child tax credit. Being poor and having 3 kids let me to about an extra $9,000 in returns this year. Do you guys know if being self employed has an effect on that at all? Its not important, but since this is the current topic I figured I'd ask.

Fed+ SE is around $6,000 on $35K
You're one of the biggest moneymakers I see on here. Been trying to get to your level lol
your rate is like 35k? With that, how much return do you typically get?
I JUST did my taxes for 2015 and I just want to figure this out.
I'm almost at the one year mark of unemployment post grad so I guess I'm nervous about it all.

I have a calculator I plugged your numbers into :)

Only made like $12K last year (June-December). Was under $2,000 in fed taxes...don't remember the exact number.

Fed+ SE is around $6,000 on $35K
That's not in line with my experience at all. 15.3% SE + 10% first 9k + 15% next up to 37k (on a taxable income of like 20-25k after deductions) is gonna be around 25% for a self-employment income of 35k.

Unless I start my own business again or something, I just do not see myself making enough to live comfortably with a "real job". I've asked a few of my old friends what they make now and it is 100-300 per week at their crap job they hate, except for a friend whose family started a tobacco shop a few years ago and he works for them, and I make almost as much as he does sitting at home, listening to music and posting GIFs

I figure I can do this for a year and start a business again, or do this for 4 years and buy a nice house :skittlefry:
